Escape To The Country in show first as host admits 'this is new for me'

Escape To The Country host Steve Brown was faced with a 'real challenge' as he experienced a show first just minutes into Friday's episode.

During the latest instalment, which was a repeat and aired on January 24 on BBC One, it was a double challenge for Steve as he helped a pair of sisters Alice and Julia make their big move from London to his home county of Kent.

However, it wasn’t straight forward as he revealed that they had two separate budgets to buy two different properties.

Speaking to viewers, Steve went on to say: "Here on Escape To The Country we like to shake things up and even go off-piste from time to time and today is one of those days."

He later admitted: "This is a new one for me, two sisters that are both looking to move out of London down to Kent but not together but close together."

Julia had a budget of £850,00 for a three bedroom property. She wanted it to be walking distance to the sea and ideally close to the coastal town of Deal as well as off-road parking and a small garden for her dog.

Meanwhile, elder sister Alice also had a budget of £850,000 for a home with a minimum of three bedrooms but would prefer a house in a more rural village setting as well as a large garden with space for chickens and bees a must.

Speaking about why they decided to relocate together, Alice said: "Although we will live our own lives, we also will carry on sharing and doing things together."

Julia added: "But one reason we feel we need to stay in the same area is that we can look after each other as we get older. Who better can I rely on than my big sister."

Before getting stuck into the unique search, Steve turned to Alice and Julia and said: "You’ve really set me a challenge on this one but what about if you like the same house? That for me is normally a win but that could be a fight."

To which Julia admitted: “It could be. You’ve got a real challenge” while Alice jumped in: “No, I think we’ll be alright.” Julia agreed: “I think we’ll be fine.”

Steve went all out and set up a number of homes to view. However, after a long week, they decided not to put an offer in for any of the properties.

Escape to the Country airs weekdays from 3pm on BBC One and iPlayer
