Escape to the Country couple stun host with emotional show admission

Escape to the Country presenter, Chris Bavin, was left stunned by one couple's emotional admission on Thursday's episode.

During the latest instalment, Chris was tasked with finding couple Alex and Neal, who were living in Harrow, London, a new property in Gloucestershire.

The creative duo, who revealed their children were at university and their current home was an empty nest, wanted to leave city life behind in search of new countryside adventures with a budget of £800,000.

Alex and Neal hoped to find a new detached home with at least three bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen, studio and half an acre of land for a quirky B&B idea they hoped to create. Another requirement was at least a 2.5 hour commute from London.

Upon meeting Chris, the couple were asked about their reason for moving to Gloucestershire where they made both an emotional and sweet admission.

The couple revealed that they had got engaged in Gloucestershire so it was a special location for them. Upon learning the news, presenter Chris remarked: "Did you really? How many years ago?"

However, the question put the duo on the spot as they had to count down the years before revealing it was in fact 27 years ago to which Chris joked: "Nice that you're both vague on that!"

Later in the episode, despite viewing some stunning properties, Alex and Neal admitted they wouldn't be moving forward.

The duo told Chris: "We loved the houses but they just didn't quite tick all of the boxes!" However, in a positive move, it had cemented the idea to the couple, who admitted they were both excited but scared about the big change, that moving to the countryside was the right decision.

Neal added: "I think a change is a good thing and I'm really excited about the prospect of what we can create together. So very positive about everything, we'll keep looking and things will fall into place it will just happen, just got to have faith!"

At the end of the episode, Chris issued an update as he said: "Alex and Neal have now sold their home in Harrow and have significantly widened their search area to include Cambridgeshire and Somerset, although they are yet to find the right place they remain committed to starting a new life in the countryside."

Escape To The Country continues on weekdays at 3pm on BBC One.
