Question: err, why is Prince William wearing two watches at once?

Cast your mind back to the 2010s, when The Only Way Is Essex's Joey Essex made a case for wearing your watch on your ankle. The look was certainly a fashion statement, and the TOWIE star was eager for it to catch on which, admittedly, it kinda did for a while. Now, more than a decade later, it seems Prince William is trying to start a watch trend of his own.

During his last two public appearances, the royal was spotted wearing two watches at the same time, one on each wrist. On one wrist, the Prince of Wales wore his Omega Seamaster 300m. The watch – which was a gift from his mother, Princess Diana – holds a lot of sentimental value and the future King has rarely been seen without it over the last 20 years. On his other wrist, Prince William sported a Garmin Forerunner 245 smartwatch.

As for why the Prince of Wales often wears two watches, fans speculate that the reason behind the move is pretty practical – one watch is a timeless, sentimental piece, whereas the other is a fitness tracker. Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton have been pretty open about their passion for living a healthy lifestyle, so it makes sense that the royal would opt for a smartwatch that can help him monitor and achieve his fitness goals.

But Prince William isn't the only royal to wear two watches at the same time, as Princess Diana was spotted doing exactly that back in 1981.

During one of the then-Prince Charles' many polo matches, Princess Diana was spotted on the sidelines wearing two watches, although some fans suspect this is because she was simply looking after her husband's whilst he was on the pitch.
