Today we're all feeling the royal love and have been poring over throwback wedding photos, as it's the ninth (ninth!) anniversary of Prince William and Kate Middleton tying the knot. Not only are we reminiscing about her stunning dress and how young Prince Harry looked (see here for details), but about one mini star who seemingly stole the show.

You may not know her name, but we're guessing you'll remember the face of little Grace Van Cutsem (who was three at the time). William's goddaughter pulled an expression which suggested she was very much not on board with the whole occasion, while the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared a long-awaited kiss on the balcony in front of a cheering crowd. Oh, and she covered her ears too.

Obviously (given that she was a literal toddler) none of this was meant to be offensive, and instead of criticism, Grace's iconic moment launched a thousand memes and earned her the online nickname of "grumpy bridesmaid". To be fair, weddings are long and tedious at the best of times and that hollering crowd down below were probably causing a right old din.

In case you'd like a little reminder, here's Grace in action on the big day:

But who exactly is the grumpy bridesmaid, we hear you cry? Well, it turns out Grace, who is now 12 (woah!), has plenty of other claims to fame too, besides her royal godfather. Her mother, Rose Astor, is part of the Astor family - her father, David (Grace's grandad), co-founded Classic FM. Rose's other ancestors include William Waldorf Astor, the founder of the luxury Waldorf Astoria hotels, and Nancy Langhorne, the first female MP in America.

Grace's paternal family (The Van Cutsems) go way back with the royals, as her grandfather, Hugh Van Cutsem Senior, became close friends with Prince Charles after meeting at Cambridge. Grace's father is Hugh Van Cutsem Junior, who married Rose in 2005, and her uncle, Nicholas, is Prince Louis' godfather.

Grace is one of three children shared by Hugh and Rose, the other two being her younger brothers, Rafe and Charles.

Neither of her parents are active on social media (Rose hasn't tweeted since May 2019, when she shared a picture of a Sports Direct mug... random?) but it's known that Rose is a travel writer and yogi, who co-founded Maggie and Rose, a chain of fancy children's clubs.

There you have it: Grumpy Bridesmaid in a nutshell.
