An English Tudor-Style Manor in Connecticut Hits the Market for $11 Million
Actress Glenn Close grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, and her Oscar-winning peer Meryl Streep calls it home today. But before big-time Hollywood names were associated with Greenwich, deep-pocketed families like the Rockefeller’s invested in the bucolic Fairfield County town, specifically, Deer Park, where the ménage owned a 122-acre natural woodland that was maintained as a trotting park with a one-quarter-mile-long racetrack. The racetrack is long gone, and, beginning in the 1920s, the Deer Park enclave was divvied up into sprawling residential estates, one of which you can now call home.
Located at 1 Deer Lane and priced at $11 million, the three-story manor sits on nearly two acres amid mature trees and lush landscaping. The stone-accented and faux-timbered English Tudor-Style mansion was built in 2013 and has since undergone renovations to its almost 13,000 square feet of casually elegant living space. Six bedrooms and eight bathrooms are spread across the residence, plus a powder room and five fireplaces. While the pedigreed estate may not currently have the latest in zero-edge infinity pools or a swimming pool at all, it does offer a number of other options for relaxing and entertaining.

“This house is exceptional as it is a bespoke Normandy style, designed by a renowned architectural firm [Austin Patterson Disston] and professionally designed to honor its original style with modern updates throughout,” shared listing agent Monica Webster of Douglas Elliman with Mansion Global. Chevron-pattern oak flooring adds grandeur to the foyer, alongside the double-height ceiling and arched entryways to the formal dining room and the family room.
The dining room, with space for at least eight, sports candle-like fixtures that set the mood, while a nearby wet bar includes a wine refrigerator. A coffered ceiling hovers over the fireside family room, and tall French doors that fill it with natural light open onto a bluestone terrace. The nearby chef’s kitchen provides all the modern appliances an amateur or professional chef might want, along with a breakfast bar and a separate dining area for casual meals.
Upstairs, the ample primary suite has a cozy sitting area and a fireplace. Step out onto the expansive private balcony for fresh air or into the gleaming, all-white ensuite bathroom that features twin vanities on opposite sides of the room. Other highlights include a home office, a paneled library, a wine cellar, and a media room.
Whether entertaining family and friends or quietly relaxing alone, the expansive terrace along the back of the house offers a calm setting amid sculpted plantings and plush, emerald lawns. And for those who absolutely need to make a splash during the summer months, it’s worth noting that there is a pre-approved site for the installation of a pool.
