What is Hyrox?

Hyrox is an 8km running race, split up by eight different functional movements:

The event takes place in large indoor venues, and competitions are hosted throughout the year in different cities, from Melbourne to Singapore to Toronto.

In the Individual category, there are two divisions: Open and Pro – Pro involves heavier weights. You can also compete in pairs (same sex or mixed) or in a relay (same-sex or mixed team of four). The top 15 men and women of the Individual Pros comprise the Elite15. After making it through an Elite Race series, they then qualify to compete in the World Championships.

The Results

In the Hyrox Open category, John Wootton put the youngsters to shame, standing on top of the podium with a time of 01:19:41 in the 65-69 age division.

Hyrox Elit15

In the Elite Men leaderboard, the UK's consistently strong Michael Sandbach scored silver, completing the race in a staggering 00:56:32 and only ranking outside the top three once. It was tight, though, as Alexander Roncevic (the Austrian is only person to finish in the top three in each of the last three world championships) took the lead only at the final wall balls station, taking first place by 11 seconds and crossing the finish line in 00:56:21.

Hyrox Doubles

In the men's doubles, MH collaborator and record-holder Jake Dearden and Marc Dean took home gold, crushing it with a time of 00:52:34 in the 16-29 age category. It was a triumph for Dearden who was recovering from a back injury and missed out on the Elite15 this year.

Daniel Sevilla (Spain) and Simon Passmore (UK) secured first place on the podium with a time of 00:59:21 in the 50-59 category.

Mixed-double champions in the 60-69 category were also home-grown, with Peter Kelly and Wendy Williams proving that age is just a number with an impressive 01:14:47 completion time.

Hyrox Relay

England were also the team world champions in the mixed relay, with Jake Williamson, Zara Piergianni, Kate Davey and Michael Sandbach completing the race in 00:50:35.
