A New England-Style Home on the Pristine Eastern Shore of Lake Tahoe Lists for $35 Million
Some might argue that Lake Tahoe is even better as a summer escape than a wintertime ski destination—and we sort of agree. After all, the impossibly blue body of water, the largest alpine lake in North America, is ideal for every warm-weather activity from boating, swimming, and kayaking to hiking, mountain biking, and simply relaxing on the pristine shore of the lake or bobbing about in the ultra-pure waters.
Rare is it that a home with direct frontage on the lake comes to market, and this extraordinary retreat on the lake’s eastern shore in Glenbrook, Nevada, is certainly one of a kind. Listed for $35 million, the home is aptly named Water’s Edge and sits just a few feet from (you guessed it!) the water’s edge. The secluded property is situated behind the exclusive, private gates of Shakespeare Ranch Properties, Tahoe’s only gated lakeside golf community. Mike Dunn of Chase International/Luxury Portfolio International holds the listing.

Water’s Edge sits on just under an acre with 174 feet of shoreline and is ensconced by towering pines at every angle. Homes in the Lake Tahoe area tend toward log cabins with rustic flair or modern mountain extravaganzas. However, here, the 4,150-square-foot main residence and the complementary two-story lakeside cabana adhere to a relaxed, traditional New England style with grey shingles cladding the exteriors. Even the interiors feel plucked from coastal Cape Cod with shiplap walls and soaring beamed ceilings.

Oversized windows keep things bright and airy and take advantage of the water views through large arched windows and terraces in nearly every room. The heart of the home is the great room, which has a large stone fireplace and multiple seating areas. The open floor plan flows into the dining area and the charming kitchen, finished with sage green cabinetry chef-grade appliances. Off the kitchen, there’s a roomy, casual breakfast nook and seating area with a fireplace and wet bar. Just outside, a covered teak deck for al fresco dining is equipped with ceiling-mounted heaters for added comfort on cooler days. Elsewhere, three en-suite bedrooms are filtered throughout three levels, along with a media/room office and several cozy seating areas.
A deck connects the main house to the lakeside cabana, which houses a kitchenette and dining area on the ground floor and a sitting room on the second floor, along with a rooftop deck shaded by mature trees. As part of the Shakespeare Ranch community, residents also have access to a 465-foot pier, one of the longest on Lake Tahoe, a nine-hole golf course, a community clubhouse, and tennis courts. The property is listed with Mike Dunn of Chase International/Luxury Portfolio International.
