Former Emmerdale star Ryan Hawley will soon be back on soaps as he’s joining Casualty.

Ryan played Robert Sugden, love interest of Aaron Dingle (played by Danny Miller) from 2014 to 2019. The popular pair married in 2018, getting the name ‘Robron’ from fans.

However, Robert and Aaron were torn apart in 2019 when Ryan made the decision to leave the show. In Robert’s final scenes, he was in court for attacking Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie), his sister’s rapist who died from his injuries - and he pleaded guilty to the murder of Katie Sugden (Sammie Winward) who he murdered years earlier.

Robert was sentenced to 14 years in prison, leaving his family devastated.

Since his Emmerdale exit, Ryan has gone on to appear in Silent Witness and will now join the BBC continuing drama, Casualty as Jamie Cleveland, a member of the board at Holby City Hospital.

He will appear in the episode that airs Saturday 15 June which is the very first episode of the new mini-series titled Storm Damage.

The first episode Sinking Ships will focus on Cam (played by Barney Walsh) who is faced with a tough shift. And further disaster looms as a deadly storm brews outside the hospital. Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) makes an unexpected connection, while Tariq Hussein (Manpreet Bachu) tries to help Rash Masum (Neet Mohan).

In the last episode - which was the finale of Breaking Point, Rash attempted to take his own life after taking blame for being the whistleblower. In actual fact, it was Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) who helped write an exposé on Holby.

Speaking to the Metro about his powerful plot, Neet explained: “Something that Casualty does so well is putting characters in situations that you wouldn’t expect them to be in. The idea for this as well was that you have someone who has some support and people around him who really care about him.

“Also doctors, medical staff, people, are often in situations where it’s really hard to find support, sometimes even when it’s there. It’s just realising that it’s OK to speak and it’s OK to have those conversations.”

Casualty recently won a BAFTA for the series and begged the BBC not to axe their drama. In their acceptance speech, actress Elinor Lawless who plays Doctor Stevie Nash said: “There's been a lot of actors who've cut their teeth on Casualty, you’ve got the likes of Jodie Comer, Tom Hiddleston, Kate Winslet, Daisy Ridley.

“I think it's incredibly important and significant for that reason as well, it’s one of those shows that for a lot of actors - definitely for me it was my first experience of being on a TV set.”
