Emma Watson responds to claims she has stopped acting
We've not seen the last of Emma Watson on our screens.
There was nearly a social media meltdown this week when reports circulated that the 30-year-old actress was "stepping back from acting" because she allegedly wanted to settle down with partner Leo Robinton. The Daily Mail reported that Watson's agent said the star was "dormant".
Digital Spy has confirmed with her representatives a second statement, which explained that Watson is simply taking a break from social media – not her professional commitments.
"Emma's social media accounts are dormant but her career isn't," her spokesperson clarified.
Watson has been away from the big screen since her Critics' Choice Award-nominated role as Meg in the hit adaptation of Little Women. Since that time, she has refrained from posting on social media; since June 2020 on Instagram and August on Twitter.
One of her last significant social media posts was an emphatic public statement to distance herself from Harry Potter author JK Rowling's contentious comments on trans people.
"Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren't who they say they are," Watson tweeted in June 2020.
"I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are."
Her co-star Daniel Radcliffe made a similar public statement at the time, saying he was "deeply sorry for the pain' Rowling's comments had caused members of the LGBTQ+ community. Rupert Grint also insisted 'we should all be entitled to live with love and without judgment" in his own response.
