Eminem's mother Debbie Nelson dead at 69 after lung cancer battle
Eminem's mum, Debbie Nelson, has reportedly passed away at the age of 69. According to reports, she died on Monday night after a brave fight with advanced lung cancer. Her death took place in St. Joseph, Missouri, as reported by TMZ. News of her cancer diagnosis was made public in September. The 51-year-old rapper has not yet spoken out about his mother's passing. Despite Eminem financially supporting his mother, it's been reported that the rapper hasn't been in contact with her or other family members in Missouri for several years.
Their rocky relationship often featured in Eminem's music, with tracks like Cleaning Out My Closet accusing his mother of abuse and neglect, according to Mirror US. In 2005, Debbie won $25,000 after successfully suing Eminem for defamation over lyrics suggesting she was a drug user. In 2008, she published a tell-all memoir titled My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem, reports the Mirror. Debbie became a mum to Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, in 1972 when she was just 18 years old.
The news of Debbie's death comes after Eminem revealed in his music video for Temporary that his daughter Hailie, 28, is expecting her first child. The song is a heartfelt letter to his daughter in case he passes away. One scene from the video shows him with Hailie on some steps. The video also shows clips of himself with his daughter over the years, including footage of him walking Hailie down the aisle at her wedding in May to Evan McClintock.

The video features Hailie handing her dad a Detroit Lions sports jersey with the word ‘Grandpa’ and the number one emblazoned on the back, and Eminem holding an ultrasound photograph toward the camera to confirm the news. The rapper then does a double take as his daughter laughs at his side. He even included a clip of himself at her wedding hugging her new husband.
You can also see guests encircling her during her first dance with her dad as the video continues. Fans were quick to flood the comments with well-wishes and remarks about seeing Eminem's softer side.
Hailie had previously taken to Instagram last February to announce her engagement to her now-husband Evan. The influencer delighted her three million followers with a "Casual weekend recap," posting a series of photos capturing the romantic proposal, including one where her fiance is seen getting down on one knee.
