Emily Blunt Clarifies 'Dear Friend' Tom Cruise's Comment After 'Ludicrous' Response

Article updated on 14/12/2022: During a recent episode of the Smartless podcast, Emily Blunt recalled Tom Cruise telling her to 'stop being such a p***y' while filming Edge of Tomorrow in 2014.

But while Blunt found Cruise's remark comical, she's now clarifying that she found the comment innocent, after she says her story was 'taken literally and absurdly out of context' by listeners.

As per E! News, Blunt said of the comment she made on December 12 : 'It's ludicrous that it's being spun as something that offended me. It didn't. I shared the story as lightheartedly as it was meant by Tom.'

The 39-year-old Devil Wears Prada star highlighted that she and Cruise are close pals.

'I absolutely adore Tom, he's a dear friend and he was a total gem to me,' she said. 'It was said as a joke to make me laugh, which it did in a big way. And it's still something we laugh about to this day.'

Blunt's initial recollection was in reference to the 'enormous' suits she and the Top Gun star had to wear for the 2014 film, which she didn't feel confident in and cried about in front of Cruise.

Emily Blunt has recalled a moment she shared with Tom Cruise during a 'panicky' shoot for their 2014 sci-fi film Edge of Tomorrow, which involved her breaking down in tears.

The event happened when the 39-year-old first slipped into her nearly 85-pound costume made up of armour and artillery.

On a December 12 episode of the Smartless podcast, she said of the costume: 'It was so heavy. The first time I put it on I just started to cry in front of Tom and he didn't know what to do.

'He just stared at me. I was like, "Tom, I'm not sure how I'm going to get through this shoot," and just started to cry. I said, "I'm just feeling a bit panicky about the whole shoot."'

Blunt continued: 'He just stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he goes, "Come on, stop being such a p***y, OK?"'

She added that she laughed off Cruise's comment before resuming the 'intense' training that the shoot demanded.

Blunt previously told Entertainment Tonight that she and Cruise 'just peed our pants' while wearing their costumes.

'It was real in the trenches.'

At the time, Cruise added: 'We did laugh a lot, even in the trenches. We were there in the dirt, and the sweat, and the blood. We had a lot of fun doing that.'

The mother-of-two previously told the Independent that Cruise was the reason she 'bounced back' after pregnancy.

'I always say Tom Cruise is the reason I bounced back after the pregnancy,' she said.

The Girl on the Train star added that 'he asked me to do Edge of Tomorrow so I was in such good shape when I got pregnant, so after I had Hazel it was easier to bounce back'.

Blunt is a mother to two daughters - Hazel, eight, and Violet, six - who she shares with her husband-of-12-years, John Krasinski.
