A first look at Emily Blunt's new western BBC series The English has been unveiled.

The A Quiet Place star takes on the role of Lady Cornelia Locke in the new drama, an aristocratic Englishwoman who comes together with Twilight's Eli Whipp (Chaske Spencer) as they "cross a violent landscape built on dreams and blood".

The first images tease a rough terrain filled with violence, with Blunt wearing both aristocratic and more casual costumes.

The 1890-set series, which comes from Black Earth Rising's Hugo Blick, is set to tackle the "core themes of identity and revenge to tell a uniquely compelling parable on race, love and power", with Locke and Whipp both having a strong sense of destiny, which is rooted in a shared past.

The synopsis continues: "They must face increasingly terrifying obstacles that will test them to their cores, physically and psychologically. But as each obstacle is overcome it draws them closer to their ultimate destination, the new town of Hoxem, Wyoming.

"It is here, after an investigation by the local sheriff Robert Marshall (Stephen Rea) and young widow Martha Myers (Valerie Pachner) into a series of bizarre and macabre unsolved murders, that the full extent of their intertwined history will be truly understood, and they will come face to face with the future they must live."

As well as The English, Blunt has roles to come in Christopher Nolan's upcoming movie Oppenheimer, as well as Netflix film Pain Hustlers.

The English will premiere on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer in November.
