Panic!

You’ve woken up from a heavy night out after pressing the snooze button one too many times and now you’re on your way to being late for work and, to make matters worse, you’ve crashed over at a friend’s house meaning you only have the contents in your bag to help you look presentable for the meeting booked at 10am!

What do you do?

Well, we’ve rounded up some emergency make-up tips and tricks to help you get your game face on when you’re in short supply of make-up.

Coconut Oil (Lip Balm)

Panda eyes is something that we’ve all woken up to several times in our life - a result of not washing off eye make-up from the night before. But make-up remover can be hard to find in someone else’s house and even after washing vigorously, waterproof mascara can be a persistent little thing.

Cue coconut oil based lip balms.

This handy oil is ideal for not only moisturising your lips but, when in a pinch, for removing stubborn make-up such as waterproof mascara and eyeliner.

Apply a thin layer of a balm such as Hurraw Coconut Lip Balm (£3.99) onto your lids and lightly wipe away make-up residue with either a cotton bud, pad or (worst case) loo roll, ensuring you avoid getting any product in your eyes.

Aftershave Balm

No, we’re not talking about shaving - we’re talking about priming!

Aftershave balm can be used as a primer underneath your foundation to make sure your make-up lasts all day.

Make-up Artist and YouTuber Nikkie Tutorials discovered the wonders of Nivea Post Shave Balm (£5.35) whilst staying over at her boyfriend’s house.

Don’t feel bad about raiding your “boyfriend’s” toiletries to find a balm with glycerin high up on the ingredients list, as glycerin adheres to beauty products, ensuring your foundation goes nowhere - just make sure you leave some for him!

Wet Wipes

The answer to almost every mess made, whether it be on your face, hands, top etc.

Wet wipes can help to remove that red smudge of lipstick that somehow ended up on your forehead last night, they can also be used to remove stubborn make-up from the night before and tidy up any make-up messes.

Keep a pack of Wet Ones (£1.15) for spills, smudges and everything in-between in your make-up bag.

A genie in a pack!

Eyebrow Pencils

We tend to look over eye brow pencils. After all, who has time for all of that work in the morning? But eye brow pencils are multi-purpose.

Not only great for filing in sparse areas of the brow, they work fantastically well as eye liners. Rim your waterline or create an easy cat eye with Rimmel Eye Brow Pencil in Dark Brown (£2.99).

You can even use eye brow pencils as lip liners and matte lipstick if it is a light shade of brown - just make sure you sharpen the nib well before applying to each area of your face.

Keep one in your bag at all times and you’ll find your brows, liner and lip liner/lipstick covered!

Cream Blushers

It’s another make-up item we tend to overlook, but cream blushers are great for make-up emergencies.

Use MAC Cosmetic Casual Colour (£18.50) as a blusher to disguise the ‘one too many bottles of wine last night’ face of death that greeted you in the morning.

You can also use cream blush as a lipstick or stain, apply a generous amount for all over vivid colour or dab onto the lips for an easy stain that should last the entire day.

Concealer Turns Foundation

In a real pinch, this is a handy trick. usually, you’d want your under eye concealer to be a shade paler than your skin tone, but by way of compromise, it’s quite good to carry one around that very nearly matches your skin tone.

This will still serve to conceal those little imperfections when used normally, but when you’ve woken up all blotchy and without your regular make-up bag, you can totally mix some of this liquid ‘All About Eyes’ concealer from Clinique with a little perfumeless moisturiser, even an unscented body lotion might do in an emergency - and use it on your whole face as you would a tinted BB Cream!
