Former model Elle Macpherson looks the picture of health. The businesswoman, now 54, has built an empire around her (seemingly ageless) body, and as a result, lives by some pretty strict rules.

But just like the rest of us, she still sometimes gets bloated, and Elle has shared her unusual tricks to reducing bloating.

The 54-year-old supermodel has found that spending an hour in the ocean is a 'great diuretic', and one of the best things for your body if you are experiencing water retention, or bloating.

'Walking in seawater is one of the best things I can do for my body,' revealed Elle in an interview with Get The Gloss. 'It tones the legs and waist, it's great for minerals and if you have any water retention, it's a great diuretic.'

'I walk in thigh-high deep or knee-deep water for 40 minutes to an hour.'

If you don't have a gorgeous Western Australian beach to hand, then try taking an epsom salt bath instead. Add a minimum of two heaped cups of epsom salts to your bath and allow yourself a good 20 minutes to soak in it.

The salt actually pulls the excess fluid out of your body, reducing bloating and taking all the toxins and unneeded water out of your system.

Another trick the supermodel uses is to eat a diet rich in pre and probiotics, which she says help her stay healthy and reduce unwanted bloating.

'Because good health starts with a healthy digestive system, I rely on a whole food plant-based diets that contain ingredients rich in pre and probiotics for supporting a healthy gut and digestive system, this helps reduce bloating and many IBS symptoms,' she revealed.

The supermodel turned business woman also shared the one simple trick she uses to help digestion and prevent bloating when travelling.

'I rarely eat on the flight to give digestion a rest,' the 54-year-old revealed. 'I just drink lots of water. Honestly, I can get straight off a long-haul flight, go straight to a board meeting and feel really well. It works for me!'

She also combats jet lag and stays fresh while flying by relying on her own wellness brand, WelleCo. 'I take two teaspoons of Super Elixir [from WelleCo] before I get on a plane, another two teaspoons diluted in a litre of water in-flight and two more when I land,' she said.
