Elizabeth Hurley has paid tribute to former fiancé Shane Warne on the day his funeral took place in Australia.

The star, 56, shared photos from her engagement to the ex-cricketer, who passed away aged 52 earlier this month.

In pictures posted to her Instagram, the couple – who met in 2010 and dated for three years – could be seen dressed in all white while posing together in Sri Lanka.

Captioning the throwback images, taken in 2013, she wrote: "My heart aches that I can’t be in Australia tomorrow for Shane’s funeral.

"I was filming last night and, with the time jump, physically can’t get there. These pictures were taken in Sri Lanka to celebrate our engagement – we had all our children with us and it was the happiest time.

"It still hasn’t really sunk in that he’s gone. It seems too cruel that all the people who loved him will never have another Lion hug, but our memories will live forever.

"RIP Lionheart, with love your Luna."

The post has received more than 90,000 'likes', with many of Hurley's famous friends commenting with messages of support.

Trinny Woodall shared: "Sending you so much love."

Joan Colins added: "Love and prayers with you."

Warne, who died of a suspected heart attack while on holiday in Thailand, was given a private send off in Melbourne.

When news of his passing first broke, Hurley – who has a son Damian, 19, from another relationship – posted a series of throwback pictures of the couple on Instagram.

She wrote: "I feel like the sun has gone behind a cloud forever."
