EastEnders fans shocked as they realise The Six storyline ‘inspired’ by huge US TV series
Ever since EastEnders first launched its nail biting Christmas murder plot all the way back in February 2023, fans of the soap were hooked on the many twists and turns. As regular viewers will know, Linda Carter stabbed Keanu Taylor to death with a meat thermometer on Christmas Day while she attempted to stop him from strangling his fiancé Sharon Watts after discovering that her son wasn’t his.
Following the death, the six women - Sharon, Denise, Suki, Kathy and Stacey - that were present at the time of the murder, better known to many as The Six, covered up the crime and buried Keanu’s body under the floor of Kathy Beale’s cafe. However, as the storyline progressed, fans have been left shocked that it appears to be 'inspired' by one very popular US show.
According to one viewer on Reddit, EastEnders bosses could have been influenced by hit soap opera, Desperate Housewives. The Reddit user wrote: "So in the show desperate housewives season 8, one of the main women in the show kills a (abusive) man, and just like the six the rest of the ladies help bury him and cover up the murder. Much like the six they spend a lot of time worrying and one of them goes on trial for the murder. At the end of the story, a character that is sick and dying, (just like Nish), takes the blame for the murder and all the women all walk free.

"Not to say this is a bad thing at all, it has been very compelling in both programmes, and these things happen all the time in television. But the storyline was 100% definitely inspired by desperate housewives."
Fellow fans appeared to agree with the post, with one writing underneath: "DH [Desperate Housewives] is my all time favourite show I’ve been saying this from day one and telling everyone how they got away with it too and look what happened!".
Another said: "Omg I literally just watched this episode, started season 8 of my DH rewatch. And now I saw this post. I still often chuckle when I think of the 6 setting the cement inside the cafe."
Similar to EastEnders - which saw six women plot together to cover up the murder of a man - US show Desperate Housewives followed Carlos who accidentally kills his wife Gabrielle's stepfather, Alejandro, who raped her in her childhood and returns to inflict more harm. Gabrielle's friends, Bree, Lynette, and Susan Delfino (Teri Hatcher), agree to help cover up the killing but, in the end, another friend Karen takes the blame as she is sick and dying.
The two storylines do appear pretty similar, especially as EastEnders' character Nish (who is terminally ill and married to Suki) just took the fall for Keanu's murder...
