EastEnders couple fuel romance rumours after sharing surprise kiss
A legendary EastEnders couple look on the verge of reuniting next week when Kat and Alfie – played by Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie – share an unexpected kiss. The pair have been brought closer in recent weeks following Kat’s trouble with son Tommy, who lashed out at her. However, in dealing with the crisis, we will see the pair realise they still have feelings for each other.
Soon, their friends and family are talking about the pair reuniting. With Kat and Alfie's rollercoaster history, will the pair decide it’s the right thing to do? Tommy has been taken in by social services after a concerned Jean called them, so at the beginning of the week, Kat is giving the rest of the Slaters the cold shoulder.
However, Alfie begs Stacey to call a truce and plots to get Kat to meet the others in the pub. Kat is furious to have been tricked, but after Alfie makes an emotional speech, the family reconcile.

After Kat tells Alfie how grateful she is, her nephew Freddie can’t help but see the chemistry. Later, Alfie confides in Freddie that he still has feelings for Kat and seeks out advice from Ian.
At a social services meeting, Kat is upset at Tommy's coldness but slightly heartened when the social worker says they can begin to work towards Tommy coming home, and Alfie explains that they would love him home for Christmas.
When Alfie makes a little bit of progress with Tommy, Kat is again grateful. Later, she surprises him with a kiss.
Actor Shane Richie, who plays Alfie, has revealed the kiss is totally unexpected. “Alfie didn’t see it coming at all!” says the actor. “When they get back, he can see Kat is a bit gooey-eyed, but he isn’t quite sure what that’s all about.
"He had no idea because Kat had been reminding him for weeks that they were just friends, and she had no feelings for him. Alfie’s resigned himself to this and that they’ll just be living together as parents and bringing up the kids together as friends.
“But then Kat kisses him, and she kisses him in the way Kat kisses Alfie in the way she would have done back in the day, and it totally upends Alfie’s world!”
Later, Kat goes to get Stacey's take on the confusing situation while Alfie seeks counsel from Ian and Freddie.
But as both Kat and Alfie discuss their feelings with their nearest and dearest, will they reunite?
According to Shane, it’s what viewers want. "People always want to know if they are getting back together. There’s a whole generation of people who were in their late teens when Kat and Alfie first got together and are now in their 40s,” he says. “They grew up with Kat and Alfie being the go-to couple.
“They might have found their own Kat or Alfie and are excited that this great love story is rearing its head again. I just say, ‘Watch this space because there will be fireworks!’” he adds.
Recently, Shane had a real-life celebration as he posted a photo of his daughter Romanie-Skye to celebrate her birthday.
