It's not pumpkin spice season just yet!

Even though it might feel like food brands are already in the fall spirit—I'm writing this with a bag of Reese’s Pumpkins on my desk—have no fear, the coffee chains haven’t declared it pumpkin spice season just yet. In fact, Dunkin’ is doubling down on summer with the launch of a new exclusively iced coffee menu.

There’s no better way to soak up the sun than with a smooth, refreshing ice-cold coffee in hand. So, to ring in the final month of summer vacation, Dunkin’ is bringing in celebrity chef Nick DiGiovanni to craft four new iced coffee drinks.

Beginning July 31, customers can order from the new “Chef Nick Menu” for a limited time. The menu features four all-new drinks: Blueberry Donut Iced Coffee with Sweet Cold Foam, Caramel Coconut Cream Iced Coffee, Mocha Vanilla Iced Coffee, and Caramel Almondmilk Iced Coffee. Here’s what’s in each drink:

  • Blueberry Donut Iced Coffee with Sweet Cold Foam: A bold iced coffee with sweet, sugary blueberry doughnut flavors that’s finished with a smooth Sweet Cold Foam.

  • Caramel Coconut Cream Iced Coffee: This iced coffee has caramel and coconut notes that make a tropical delight.

  • Mocha Vanilla Iced Coffee: This drink combines the best of both chocolate-coffee and vanilla worlds.

  • Caramel Almondmilk Iced Coffee: The boldest of the group, this drink is a typical iced coffee with caramel flavors and a splash of almond milk.

While the Chef Nick Menu debuts nationwide on July 31, there is a bit of a catch. The menu will be exclusively available via the Dunkin’ app. That means you’ll have to order your coffee in the app if you want to try the specialty iced beverages—or, you can politely ask the barista to make you one of the coffees using the proper customizations.

I tried the new Chef Nick iced coffees, and here is my honest review.

My Honest Review

My team and I gave the new menu a try and our reactions were mixed. While nothing really stood out to us, nothing was bad either.

The winners of the group seemed to be the Caramel Coconut Cream Iced Coffee and the Blueberry Donut Iced Coffee with Sweet Cold Foam (though our Dunkin’ forgot to add the sweet foam). They were unique compared to the Caramel Almondmilk Iced Coffee—which is really just a caramel-flavored iced coffee with almond milk—and the Mocha Vanilla Iced Coffee—which tastes like a plain chocolatey mocha.

The Caramel Coconut Cream Iced Coffee surprised me. While I did enjoy the Dr. Pepper Creamy Coconut when it launched earlier this year, I wasn’t expecting to like coconut in a bolder-flavored coffee. However, the summery flavor was a pleasant surprise—it tastes like you’re sitting by a beach. My only complaint is the coconut overpowers any caramel flavor, so I’d maybe replace the caramel syrup with a sweeter vanilla—or remove it altogether.

The Blueberry Donut Iced Coffee without the Sweet Cold Foam wasn’t as sweet as we thought it would be. It has a light, subtle flavoring that was better than we expected. While we didn’t taste the sweetness of a blueberry doughnut, that’s likely because we were missing the sweet cold foam on top.

Dunkin’s Chef Nick Menu is certainly a fine addition to the late-summer menu, but it’s nothing revolutionary. I hate to say it, but I think I’ll save my specialty Dunkin’ coffee order for the upcoming PSL season.
