Photographs shared to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s official Instagram page showed the royals chatting with cast members including a snap of Prince William side-by-side with the film’s leading man, Tom Cruise.

To attend the premiere, the Duchess opted for a chic black and white designer gown by Roland Mouret and looked every inch the Hollywood star. The floor length, fitted black gown features an off the shoulder white collar, giving the look a thoroughly modern, tuxedo-style edge.

Kate accessorised her look with a pair of dangling diamond star earrings by Robinson Pelham and a black and silver clutch bag by Alexander McQueen.

Prince William wore a black tuxedo and bow tie with a white pocket square, meaning the pair were perfectly coordinated in black and white.

In caption alongside the photos shared to social media, the royal couple said that it was “Wonderful to join @tomcruise, cast, crew and fans of Top Gun: Maverick for this evening’s UK premiere.”

Top Gun: Maverick is the sequel to the original 1986 Top Gun film, in which Tom Cruise also starred. The new film sees the actor reprise his role and follows the character 30 years on from the first movie.
