Kate Middleton is lucky enough to have been gifted some sentimental jewellery from husband Prince William. And, as the Duchess of Cambridge, she also gets to borrow things from the Queen, including crowns and tiaras.

So what does a sister buy her royal sibling for special occasions? It looks as though Pippa Middleton doesn't struggle when it comes to gift ideas, having purchased Kate the most meaningful piece of jewelry when the royal gave birth to Prince George.

According to The Mirror, Pippa purchased a Merci Maman necklace for the Duchess in 2013 to continue a tradition first started by Princess Diana after the birth of Prince William.

Kate's necklace features a gold-plated disc with the words George Alexander Louis engraved on it, alongside a smaller heart with a 'W' (for William) and a charm in the shape of a little boy.

The necklace that Princess Diana wore, given to her by Prince Charles, was a similar gold disc with the word 'William' engraved on the front.

Merci Maman wrote in a blog post: "Upon the birth of Prince William in 1982, Prince Charles gave Diana the gift of a gold pendant engraved their new son's name, which she always wore close to her heart."

"In 2013, Pippa Middleton continued this family tradition by giving her sister Kate, The Duchess of Cambridge, our Personalised Duchess Necklace to celebrate the birth of Prince George."
