The Duchess of Cambridge will miss out on a Buckingham Palace balcony wave next month, as she is not due to attend a flyover in celebration of the Royal Air Force’s 100th anniversary.

On 10 July, the Queen and other senior members of the royal family will watch a 100-strong flypast from the now-famous East Wing, as part of the centenary celebrations.

The Duchess is not expected to attend the engagement, as she is on maternity leave until autumn in order to look after her third child, Prince Louis.

The royal line-up has yet to be confirmed by Kensington Palace but it is widely speculated that the Queen will be joined by the likes of Prince Charles, Camilla Parker-Bowles and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The upcoming engagement will mark Meghan Markle‘s second appearance on the balcony after she made her debut at Trooping the Colour 2018 in a pink Carolina Herrera skirt suit.

Before the family graces the balcony, the former actress will join the Queen at Westminster Abbey for a commemorative service where Her Majesty will make a short speech.

The flyover is scheduled to take place at 1pm and will reportedly include the most varied range of RAF aircraft since the Queen’s coronation back in 1953. Royal fans take note, as the parade of 1,000 RAF personnel will head towards Buckingham Palace through The Mall from approximately 11.25am.

Air Chief Marshal, Sir Stephen Hillier, said: “This once-in-a-lifetime flypast will provide an iconic centrepiece for the RAF100 celebrations. In our centenary year we are commemorating those that have come before us, celebrating our current personnel and, ultimately, inspiring a new generation to write the next chapters in the RAF’s story.”

It’s scheduled to be a busy week for the royal family, as they will gather at St James’s Palace the day before for Prince Louis’s christening.

The day after the RAF centenary celebrations, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will embark upon their two-day trip to Dublin where they are expected to attend an event at Gaelic Athletic Association before paying their respects at the Famine Memorial.
