The Duchess of Cambridge met with members of the Armed Services yesterday (15 September) in her first outing since her summer break in royal duties.

The Duchess met with troops involved in the civilian evacuation from Kabul, Afghanistan in recent weeks, which was known as “Operation Pitting.”

In a post on her official Instagram account shared with the Duke of Cambridge, Kate said that it was an “honour to hear the stories of some of those involved in #OperationPitting”, adding that the stories were “inspiring, emotional, harrowing and powerful." She went onto describe those she spoke to as “an incredible group of people.”

Photographs of the Duchess in a military plane and sitting with servicemen and women were shared to social media following her visit to RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.

The Duchess of Cambridge commended the work of the Armed Forces saying, “You should all be proud of your work, often around the clock, to support the evacuation of civilians from Afghanistan.”

In the post she also explained that, “Flying out in excess of 15,000 people from Kabul was a truly collaborative operation across our Armed Services, local authorities and aid organisations in Afghanistan and the UK.”

The visit was the Duchess’ first since the summer break period, although both the Duke and Duchess have been active on social media in recent months. The pair congratulated both the Olympic and Paralympic athletes as well as tennis star Emma Raducanu.

The pair also joined the Queen and Prince Charles in wishing a happy birthday to Prince Harry earlier this week, as he celebrated turning 37.
