Louise Bourgeois once said: "The spider is a repairer. If you bash into the web of the spider, she doesn’t get mad. She weaves and repairs it." The act of creativity is a powerful one – essential in a society where physical separation now defines our lives. During this pandemic age, we at Bazaar have turned to artists for solace, inspiration and guidance, and have found emotional repair in their webs of creation.

And so, for the eighth annual issue of Bazaar Art, our magazine dedicated to women in the art world, we have four limited-edition covers by the artists Deborah Roberts, Cassi Namoda, Louise Bourgeois and Michaela Yearwood-Dan (in collaboration with the author Margaret Atwood). We also visit Simone Rocha in her space, who tells us about her creative relationship with Bourgeois, and in a poignant story, we ask the artists Shirin Neshat, Claudette Johnson, Chantal Joffe, Zanele Muholi and Gillian Wearing for their self-portraits made during lockdown.

Finally, we get an insight into the worlds of the curator Zoe Whitley, the Great Women Artists podcast founder Katy Hessel and the breathtaking multimedia artist Cao Fei. Realised with the patronage of Audemars Piguet, Bazaar Art is dedicated to the work that prompts a smile, gives us hope and, in a fractured world, makes things whole.
