Ivana Trump – who was married to former US President Donald Trump from 1977 to 1992 – has passed away at the age of 73.

The Czech-born ski racer and model, who later pursued a career in business, passed away at her home in New York City. She leaves behind three children – 44-year-old Donald Jr, 40-year-old Ivanka and 38-year-old Eric.

Taking to social media, Ivanka penned an emotional tribute to her mother, telling her followers: "Heartbroken by the passing of my mother. Mom was brilliant, charming, passionate and wickedly funny. She lived life to the fullest — never forgoing an opportunity to laugh and dance."

Ivanka went on, "I will miss her forever and will keep her memory alive in our hearts always."

Speaking about the news on his own social platform, Truth Social, former US President Donald Trump (who has an indefinite ban from Twitter) said: "I am very saddened to inform all of those that loved her, of which there are many, that Ivana Trump has passed away at her home in New York City."

The 76-year-old's tribute went on, "She was a wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman, who led a great and inspirational life. Her pride and joy were her three children, Donald Jr, Ivanka and Eric. She was so proud of them, as we were all so proud of her. Rest In Peace, Ivana!"

In another statement, the Trump family described Ivana as "a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend.

"Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination," the family added. "She will be dearly missed by her mother, her three children and ten grandchildren."

On his own Twitter account, Ivana's son Eric shared a childhood family photo in which he, his siblings and his parents are wearing matching red outfits as they pose for the camera at home.

After making a name for herself on the ski scene, Ivana became well known for her accent and signature beehive hairstyle. She went on to have a guest appearance in the iconic 1996 movie, The First Wives Club, starring Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler. Ivana also appeared on seventh series of Celebrity Big Brother UK in 2010 and was evicted on Day 25, just two days before the finale. Before her passing, Ivana had a reported net worth of $100million.

Her cause of death has not yet been revealed.
