Donald Trump says he avoided talking to Prince Harry about Meghan Markle row

Donald Trump chose not to talk to Prince Harry about his so-called feud with the royal’s wife, Meghan Markle.

During a half-hour exclusive interview with ‘Good Morning Britain’ host Piers Morgan, Trump said he did not discuss claims he had called the Duchess of Sussex “nasty”.

Trump is on a three-day long state visit to the UK, and on Monday night he attended dinner at Buckingham Palace with the royals.

But it would seem the notoriously outspoken president held his tongue in conversation with Prince Harry – even though he was “going to” address the controversy.

Asked by Morgan, “Did you get a chance to talk to Prince Harry?”

President Trump replied: “I did, I did and I congratulated him and I think he’s a terrific guy. The Royal Family is really nice.”

Piers added: “Did he say: ‘Come on - do you think my wife’s nasty?’

Trump replied: “We didn’t talk about it...I was going to because it was so falsely put out there.

“And when you see that transcript and you see, it’s the exact opposite of what they said. Did you look at the transcript?”

The Duchess of Sussex, who is currently on maternity leave, did not join the state banquet.

It is unclear quite how much conversation Trump personally had with Prince Harry, although he stressed the royal had spoken “a lot” to his daughter, Ivanka.

“He spent a lot of time talking to Ivanka and talking to my family.

“I went up - he couldn’t have been nicer. Couldn’t have been nicer… I think he’s great.”
