Donald Trump has already closed down his new blog
Oh dear, oh dear. Just a month after launching his new blog, Donald Trump has now closed it - reportedly due to low readership. In May, we shared information on the new platform for communications that had been launched by the former President, who practically left the White House kicking and screaming in January after refusing to accept that President Joe Biden had beaten him fairly in the election.
After a few quiet months, Trump returned, boasting the arrival of 'From the desk of Donald J. Trump'. The page on his website looked suspiciously similar in format to a well known social media site the reality star-turned politician had been banned from. Formatted in a chronological timeline, Trump's blog page displayed bitesize thoughts and opinions from the ex-President, such as: "The Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020 will be, from this day forth, known as THE BIG LIE!" Yup, told you it'd sound familiar (just, minus a few million retweets.)
According to the Washington Post, on its last day remaining live the site received just 1,500 shares or comments on Facebook and Twitter, which is a pretty steep decline from the days of his tweets receiving hundreds of thousands, and sometimes millions, of reactions. After the Post reported on the blog's "measly readership" (as they put it), it seems the decision was made to can it.
A spokesman for Donald Trump, Jason Miller, told Reuters that the 'From the Desk of Donald J. Trump' blog "was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on. I'm hoping to have more information on the broader efforts soon, but I do not have a precise awareness of timing."
What Miller is referring to is a broader plan for Trump to launch another, social media-type platform, but little specific information is known about what that would look like. Donald Trump was famously permanently banned from both Twitter and Facebook earlier this year, after the notorious tweeter made so many unverified claims of voting fraud.
Donald Trump fans claimed his removal from social media violated the outgoing President's right to free speech, but Twitter insisted the move was necessary. "After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence," they said in a blog post at the time.
Well, let's all wait with baited breath to see what Trump comes up with next.
