Dolly Parton is officially saving Christmas and will be delivering us some much-needed pre-festive cheer as her holiday musical is now launching on Netflix next month.
The country music icon stars in and serves as executive producer for the film Christmas on the Square, which also stars Good Wife legend Christine Baranski, Black-ish star Jenifer Lewis, Treat Williams and Grey's Anatomy Jeanine Mason, with Debbie Allen directing.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the drama follows Christine as the snooty Regina, who returns to her small hometown after her father's death to evict everyone and sell the land to a mall developer – right before Christmas.
However, after listening to stories of the local townsfolk, reconnecting with an old love, and accepting the guidance of an actual angel (Dolly Parton, of course), Regina starts to have a change of heart.
Dolly shared the exciting news on Instagram by posting a picture of the movie's poster, and added the caption: "#ChristmasOnTheSquare is more than just a song...it’s also a musical! Watch my newest movie, directed by @therealdebbieallen and starring Christine Baranski, @jeniferlewisforreal and so many other talented folks, November 22 on Netflix."
The musical will launch on November 22, which marks a year since the online streamer released Dolly Parton's Heartstrings. Heartstrings is an anthology series that showcases the stories, memories, and inspirations behind the musician's most beloved songs. New and classic Dolly music scores every episode, and each story varies in tone, from love stories and inspirational tales to family dramas, westerns, and revenge comedies.
Christmas on the Square will launch on Netflix on 22 November.
