A dog trainer has revealed the one thing he can't stand about a hugely popular dog breed.

Everyone has their favourite dog breeds - whether you're a fan of a pocket-sized chihuahua, a loyal labrador, or a tough-looking pitbull. Whatever type of dog you have, you'll likely be aware that it has very different needs from other pooches of differing breeds, from exercise regimes down to affection requirements and even eating habits.

But one dog trainer has said there's one thing about a popular breed that he just can't stand - although it's not what you think. Dog trainer Will Atherton made a video on TikTok in which he explained there's something he "hates more than anything" about rottweilers, but it has nothing to do with their temperament.

Rottweilers often get a negative reputation as aggressive dogs, but Will noted that it is almost never the dog's fault. In fact, the thing he hates most about the breed is the people who own them and don't know how to properly take care of them, leading to them lashing out.

He said: "What I hate about the rottweiler more than anything as a canine behaviourist is simple. It's people getting these glorious breeds that don't have the skill, experience, or assertive confidence required to train them, keep them under control, and let them thrive as the dogs that they should be.

"They are very independent, confident dogs that are prone to aggression if required. If you don't know how to handle that, how to harness that and how to turn that into positivity, you will have a disaster on your hands. But if you are capable of doing so, there's not many better dogs on the planet."

Rottweilers are a popular dog breed in the UK, with a recent survey discovering they are the third most "searched-for" dog breed online with 46,420 monthly searches, according to Country Living. The breed was only beaten by the most popular dog breed in the UK, the cocker spaniel, and the second-place entry, the golden retriever.

In fact, rottweilers were deemed more popular in the results than labradors, who finished in eighth place; French bulldogs, who landed in sixth; and German shepherds, who were fifth.

Commenters on Matt's video were in agreement with his opinion on rottweilers and their owners, with many saying they would never get one themselves despite loving the breed as they know they don't have what it takes.

One person said: "I love rotties, they're my favourite. I'm never going to have one." Another added: "I love rottweilers, I just don't have the patience." While a third declared: "We've had rotties for 23 years and have 4 of them at the moment. Such a great breed BUT they need confident and experienced owners."
