After a lengthy stay in several shelters, an Ohio dog is still waiting for her forever home.

Baby, a black and white pup, was found chained up and abandoned and found in 2018 by humane officers in Mahoning County, Ohio, and transported to Animal Charity of Ohio, a local shelter, WKYC reported. Although she was well-loved by those who worked at the shelter, Baby didn't find an adopter in the seven years she spent there.

Still, word got out about the pup, now estimated to be around 9 years old. Lake Humane Society, another adoption center in Ohio, contacted her original shelter and arranged for Baby to be transferred to Lake Humane to give her a fresh start at finding a family.

"Everyone knows her story," Patience Doeing, Lake Humane Society's intake and foster coordinator, told WKYC. "We've been talking about it for a long time."

And when Baby arrived at Lake Humane Society last week, she was welcomed with enthusiasm.

"Everyone that she's met here just loves her," said Doeing. "When she arrived, everyone was like, 'Let me come see Baby!'"

According to her adoption profile, Baby is a little under 70 pounds and "full of love."

"It's hard to understand why this gentle girl hasn't found her forever family yet, but we're hopeful her time is finally here," the shelter included. "Baby is kind, affectionate, and ready to bring endless love to the right home after so many years in a cage. She deserves a life full of comfort, love, and the family she's always dreamed of."

For instance, when Baby stayed overnight with a Lake Humane Society volunteer, she won over her host: "She was doing zoomies in the house. She loved it on the couch and dog beds. She acted like she'd always been there" the volunteer told WKYC.

Lake Humane added in her adoption profile: "Her foster couldn't stop raving about how perfect she was as a house guest."
