A documentary about Ghislaine Maxwell is coming to ITV

ITV has commissioned a new documentary on Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently on trial in the US for her alleged involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking scandal.

The documentary will include interviews with key figures in the case, as well as Maxwell's alleged victims and her siblings, some of whom are speaking out on the matter for the very first time. The feature-length episode will be fronted by TV presenter Ranvir Singh, who has worked on Loose Women and Good Morning Britain.

59-year-old Maxwell has been on remand in a detention centre in Brooklyn, New York since shortly after her arrest in July 2020. Today marks the first day of her trial, of which she is accused of procuring and sexually trafficking underage girls for Epstein (who was found dead in his cell in 2019, before he was convicted or sentenced for his alleged crimes) between 1994 and 2004.

In total, the former socialite has been charged with six offences (four relating to her involvement with the abuse and two counts of perjury, meaning lying under oath), these include: Conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts; Enticing a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts; Conspiracy to transport minors with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity; and transporting a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

Reports claim that Maxwell was in charge of staffing Epstein's many homes around the globe (from Paris to Palm Beach in Florida) and deliberately sought out women from impoverished or difficult backgrounds, who Epstein would then sexually abuse. "Jeffrey and Ghislaine had a way of normalising the abuse, they kind of made it feel as though we were in this deranged family," said alleged victim Virginia Giuffre, who also states that on occasion Maxwell would join in with the assaults. Others have told similar stories, while also accusing Maxwell of taking passports away from any women who tried to escape from Epstein's private island.

ITV's documentary is set to follow Maxwell's own trial, and explore how the daughter of one of Britain's wealthiest families found herself at the centre of a sex trafficking scandal. The documentary, which provisionally has been titled Ghislaine, will include unseen archive footage and exclusive testimonies, as well as interviews.

Ghislaine is due to air after the conclusion of Maxwell's trial.
