Doctor Who shares first look at Davina McCall in Ncuti Gatwa’s Christmas special
Doctor Who spoilers follow.
Doctor Who has released the first look at Davina McCall in Ncuti Gatwa's debut Christmas special.
The legendary Big Brother presenter will be making her unexpected return to the world of Doctor Who nearly 19 years after a previous cameo in 2005's 'Bad Wolf'.
In her previous appearance, the host lent her voice to the Davinadroid in a futuristic parody of Big Brother (alongside Anne Robinson hosting a life-or-death version of The Weakest Link).
This time, Davina will appear in the flesh as she's been photographed outside the TARDIS in this year's festive episode 'The Church on Ruby Road' — and just like with her previous guest stint, this special has been written by showrunner Russell T Davies.
"It is beyond an honour to be asked to appear in not only Doctor Who but also Ncuti's first episode as the new Doctor," Davina said. "It was such an extraordinary experience and Russell has written you all a Christmas delight! Now I just can't wait for everyone to see it!”
Other preview photos released from this holiday instalment reveal a little green goblin wearing a cosy nightcap (it is Christmas after all), as well as Ncuti's 15th Doctor and new companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson).
The BBC has confirmed the special will revolve around The Doctor and Ruby coming face-to-face as they both try to explain the sudden appearance of mythical goblins in their lives.
Newcomers to the cast include It's a Sin star Michelle Greenidge as Ruby's mum Carla and EastEnders' Angela Wynter as her grandmother Cherry, as well as Walford legend Anita Dobson playing Mrs Flood.
"From Day One in this job, I wanted Doctor Who back on Christmas Day! And with Ncuti, Millie, Davina and the Goblin King, I hope it's a feast for all the family," Davies said.
Davies previously announced Doctor Who would return to Christmas for 2023, after previous showrunner Chris Chibnall had moved the festive specials to New Year's Day.
Doctor Who's 'The Church on Ruby Road' will air on Christmas Day (December 25), but the next 60th anniversary special, 'Wild Blue Yonder', premieres first on December 2. The show airs on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere.
Classic episodes of Doctor Who are now made available via BBC iPlayer in the UK as well.
