DIY Summer Birthday Gift Wrapping Ideas

It can be so tempting when wrapping friends and family’s birthday gifts to just grab a roll of paper from the local shop and parcel them up with some sellotape - it does just get ripped off after all. However, I believe that gift wrap is an extension of the present itself and that so much joy can be got from it.

Here are two unique DIY gift wrapping ideas for loved ones with summer birthdays…

Ice-Cream Stack

If you have a few small gifts to wrap, it can be really nice to stack them and wrap each of them in a different pattern or texture. You can print out A4 sheets of patterns for free on the computer, but I got my paper from the Glittery Hands Box craft subscription that I get every month. You can also use patterned paper napkins and coloured felt, like I have here.

First, wrap each of your gifts up in ice-cream-themed designs, stack them up and tie them together with some pom pom trim that looks like tiny ice-cream scoops. If you keep all your embellishments pastel, you won’t go far wrong though.

Next, stick some pompoms (which also look like ice-cream scoops) over your package, as well as some ice-cream stickers to decorate. Finally, print out an ice-cream sundae on some cardboard, cut round it and use it as a gift tag. I added a silver initial sticker to mine to personalise it.

Tropical

The key to this design is to use a sheet of adult colouring paper - you can print lots of these out for free online, but I got this tropical fruit one from this month’s Glittery Hands Box too. Using simple black and white paper that’s themed to your design, allows the colours of your embellishments and ribbons to really stand out.

First, wrap your gift in the paper, then stick some fruit washi tape around it like you would ribbon, and top this with some neon thin ribbon or wool.

Next, stick on some bright fruity stickers and tropical cardboard die-cuts to decorate. Finally, you need a gift tag - you can print out something tropical onto some card online, or you can use an online photo printing service (such as Cheerz) like I did, to print out some patterns you like as Polaroid-style prints. These make great gift tags as you can write your message onto the caption section of the photo. Happy wrapping!
