Ditch those heart-thumping HIIT sessions: low intensity exercise is the best way to work out

After training for a marathon and sustaining an injury to my sesamoid – a part of my body I never knew I had (it’s a pea-shaped bone in the ball of the foot) – I was gutted to be told I could only do ‘moderate’ exercise. The latest buzz-acronym in the fitness world is LISS, which stands for Low Intensity Steady State, the antithesis of the ‘go hard or go home’ philosophy.
