Disney is on a role with its live action remakes at the moment. Not only is Emma Stone's Cruella dropping later in 2021, but last year we got the excellent news that Beyoncé is working with Disney on three separate projects. And if that wasn't enough, the live action remake of Pinocchio is also in the works, with some pretty big names already signed up to the project.

Here's everything you need to know about Pinocchio.

What do we actually know about Pinocchio?

Like other live-action remakes before it Pinocchio will likely follow the same story as Disney's previous film, but with 81 years between this and the original film there's likely to be some fairly major updates.

The story follows a wooden marionette named Pinocchio who was made my an inventor named Gepetto. Pinocchio magically turns into a living puppet, but his true wish is to become a real boy. With the help of his conscience, Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio goes about trying to do just that, and getting into lots of sticky situations in the process.

Who has been cast in Pinocchio?

Only two main cast member have been announced, but they're both big names so we can't wait to see who's coming next.

Pembrokeshire Murders star Luke Evans has signed up to play the evil coachman, making it the second time he'd played a Disney villain, after landing the role of Gaston in the 2017 Beauty and the Beast remake. Previously Line of Duty star Stephen Graham was rumoured to be attached to the role.

Meanwhile Hollywood legend Tom Hanks has been cast in the role of Gepetto, according to a report from Deadline. Hanks previously worked with Pinocchio's director Robert Zemeckis on Forrest Gump back in 1994.
