Dice and Needle organizes cat supply drive

May 8—BATESVILLE — Dice and Needle, 107 E. George Street, Batesville, is conducting a pet supply drive.

Store owner Natasha Kellerman said she wanted to do something to raise more awareness of "specially-abled pets," both because she owns one and because when she searched for information on special-needs animals she found a lot of information on special needs dog shelters and rescues but didn't find any for cats.

Kellerman wants to ensure cats get the attention they deserve, and feels the best way to do so is to bring attention to the people who rescue animals, specifically cats, via a supply drive.

This is the first time Dice and Needle has organized a pet supply drive; however, Kellerman maintains a Little Free Library in front of the store and a Blessing Box nearby.

The supply drive began on May 1 and runs until May 11.

Kellerman gathered lists of needed items from area shelters and they include:

—Dry cat and dry kitten food

—Cat litter

—Cat toys

—Tall kitchen bags, 13-gallon and 35-gallon sizes

—Laundry detergent and fabric softener sheets

—Bleach

—Dawn dish soap

—Disposable gloves, both food service style and medical style

—Paper towels

—Liquid hand soap

Monetary donations are also accepted.

All donations will go to shelters around the region, depending on how many items are received.

Kellerman said she plans to start with Ripley and Franklin counties and then expand to Decatur County and PAWS of Dearborn County if enough donations come in.

"I know all shelters can use it," Kellerman said.

Anyone who makes a donation before May 11 will receive a commemorative sticker and a 10% off purchase coupon to Dice and Needle.
