As someone who has always opted for cheap, on-trend bags her entire life, I've now discovered the benefits of saving up to purchase one or two quality 'forever' handbags that go with everything in my wardrobe.
The main benefits? A luxe bag from a quality brand will last a lifetime if you look after it, meaning less expense in the long run. And, as my pleather bags always fell apart after a few years of regular use, buying a high-quality piece means way less waste or environmental impact. Because the average faux leather handbag will take 500 years to decompose in landfill.
That has probably given you pause for thought, no?
Top tips: scour the sales but try and leave it until as close to the end as possible, luxury resale sites like Vestaire, and designer discount websites like The Outnet. Also, sign up for emails because many brands give at least 10% off full-price items for new customers.
It's also crucial to remember that if you do want to get rid of any of your designer handbags in the future, you're way more likely to be able to sell them – meaning that it's less impactful on the planet. Or they'll be snapped up in your local charity shop, and raise loads of money for a great cause.
(Whereas my sad, old, cheap pleather bags always looked so worse for wear I'd have been embarrassed to donate them).
Of course, quality handbags come with a steeper price point due to the craftmanship involved and the materials used.
However, we've scoured the last of the sales and found some of the most covetable – yet affordable – luxury handbags for £150 and under.
