Death in Paradise star 'would love' to return to replace Ralf Little
BBC's Death In Paradise fans are abuzz with speculation as Ralf Little steps away from his role, and a familiar face hints at a possible return.
Peter Davison, known for his guest stint on the show years ago and currently starring in Beyond Paradise, has expressed his eagerness to reprise a detective role on the tropical series. However, he joked the part will likely go to someone "a lot younger than him".
Chatting about the potential new lead and whether he'd throw his hat in the ring, he shared with the Mirror.: "I have no thoughts about who the new detective may be, except I suspect he'll be a lot younger than me. I would [go back]; it was lovely actually.
"I'd certainly consider it. I'm kind of fond of living my little life in southwest London. I'm not sure how I would take to be away for four, five months during hurricane season in the Caribbean."
Ralf made a dramatic exit as DI Neville Parker from the beloved drama in the latest series finale, leaving Saint Marie alongside Florence Cassell. In a heartfelt farewell video, Ralf called his time on the show a "privilege".
"It has been an absolute privilege and pleasure to bring Neville Parker to all of you and to share his really quite profound journey with you. I can't thank you all enough for the support over the last four-and-a-half years and as Neville heads off for new challenges and adventures and I head off for new challenges and adventures," he shared.
"When I look back at the time I spent on Death In Paradise, the way everyone took Neville into their hearts, it really has been one of the most magical and profound experiences of my entire life. If it wasn't for all of you, I'd have never of got to do it. So thank you, so so much! What next for the show? Well, I couldn't even tell you if I did know but I don't! I don't know!
"But what I do know is that the team that makes it, the producers, the writers, directors, all the crew, guest cast and of course my absolutely magnificent co-stars. They know what they're doing and the future is in good hands! So I'll be watching series 14 along with you guys with the same excitement you all will. I can't wait to see what happens next!"
It comes as bookies think the new lead detective could be Mandy and Motherland star Diane Morgan. Coral have the actress as the odds-on favourite at 1/2 to take over the detective role.
Miranda Hart comes in a close second at 2/1 while Martin Clunes and Rupert Grint round out the top contenders at 7-2 and 5-1. Coral spokesperson John Hill remarked: “Mandy star Diane Morgan tops our betting to replace Ralf Little on Death In Paradise. We think the show may go for a new look on the next series, with the comedian the most likely to land the lead detective role.”
