Filming on Death in Paradise series 13 has kicked off.

The hit BBC series wrapped up its 12th run earlier this year, though it wasn't long before it was confirmed that not one but two more series are on the way (and two feature-length Christmas specials to boot).

The show's official Twitter account has now confirmed that production has commenced on the next set of episodes, posting a picture of a clapperboard in a swimming pool.

"We're back in Guadeloupe with a splash!" they wrote earlier this week (2 May). "Today was our first day of filming series 13 of #DeathInParadise!"

Speaking after the show was renewed in February, executive producer Tim Key said: "The response to series 12 has been incredible, so we’re delighted that we’ll be heading back to Guadeloupe for at least two more series.

"We’ve got an amazing and joyful Christmas special in store, and then series 13 begins with our 100th episode, so we’ve got plenty of surprises ready to celebrate that milestone. We’ve got huge plans for the future and can’t wait to get going again."

Ralf Little's character Neville Parker will be sticking around, while Shantol Jackson's DS Naomi Thomas, Tahj Miles's Officer Marlon Pryce, Ginny Holder's Trainee Darlene Curtis, and Élizabeth Bourgine's Catherine Bordey are expected to return.

Death in Paradise recently crossed over with spin-off show Beyond Paradise, as Kris Marshall's DI Humphrey Goodman returned to Saint Marie for the first series' final episode.

Death in Paradise and its spin-off, Beyond Paradise, air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.
