Dawn French wows in 60th birthday portrait

It’s mad to think that Britian’s beloved comedienne Dawn French has just turned 60.

Celebrating the start of her fourth decade in showbusiness, one of the funniest women on TV has posed for a beautiful birthday portrait.

The black-and-white shot sees Dawn with her usual smile, styled with tousled hair and a subtle smoky eye.

It was taken by photographer Trevor Leighton, who took the famous photograph of Dawn and sidekick Jennifer Saunders in their student house in 1983.

Dawn caught the attention of the public this week while on a promotional tour for hew new book. Stopping off at both ‘The One Show’ and ‘Loose Women’, fans were stunned to see the actress had lost even more weight.

“I shed the weight a long time ago, I go up a bit, down a bit, feel no different,” she said on ‘Loose Women’, revealing that she lost almost eight stone to prepare for a hysterectomy in 2014. “I’m still Dawn, I liked the old Dawn. I may go there again – depends how many doughnuts I decide to eat.”

Unfortunately, the 60-year-old stated that there is “no magic wand” when it comes to weight loss, adding: ‘Just tiny, joyless low-cal eating and lots more walking for weeks and weeks.”

“It was grim. I lost seven-and-a-half stone [so] I could have the keyhole surgery. That’s all it was, practical.”
