David Goggins Shared How a Brutal Leg Injury Only Made Him Stronger

David Goggins is well-known for sharing both his physically gruelling training and his advice on motivation, to the point that his workouts, influenced by his time as a Navy SEAL, are a popular challenge among fitness influencers who want to push themselves to their physical limits.

According to Goggins, the perspective he has adopted over the years also helps him deal with adversity, as he learned recently following a serious leg injury. In a new video on his Instagram account, he explained that just four months ago he underwent surgery on his left leg, and had multiple rods and screws inserted into the bones to help him heal. This meant two things: a pretty lengthy recovery time, and a considerable change to Goggins' routine, which is famously packed with intense cardio sessions.

"I like to run. That got taken away from me for a few months," he said. "But who cares? Life will not always be 70 and sunny. Life is the ultimate competitor. It's relentless. It will continue to attack you when you least expect it."

Goggins went on to explain the mindset which helped him adjust to his new set of circumstances, and which he applies to all forms of difficulty he encounters.

"We must learn to adapt and overcome any and all obstacles that are in front of us," he said. "We have to evolve, and the way I evolved was I changed my diet. I had to start doing a lot more cross training. When the obstacle gets in front of you, don't let it stop you. Don't let it deter you. Navigate around that motherfucker."
