Danielle Brooks’ daughter has the sweetest reaction to seeing her mama on the big screen

Orange is the New Black star Danielle Brooks is so grateful to be able to leave her daughter something to remember her by and to make her proud. Brooks’ most recent project, The Color Purple, is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day, and while taking her daughter to her first movie experience for a showing of The Little Mermaid, she got to share her latest project with her.

On Monday Brooks shared a video on Instagram of her daughter Freeya (dressed as a princess) watching The Color Purple trailer for the first time, People reported.

“That’s you!” Freeya ecstatically said to her mom when she saw her on the screen. “That’s you! That’s you!” Freeya continued in the video. “Mommy!”

“You all know I became a puddle of tears,” Brooks said in the video caption. She said it’s so special to her to share these moments with her daughter and she’s “grateful for moments like these.”

The Color Purple film was originally released in 1985, and it was based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize winning feminist story that was published in 1982. The film was directed by Steven Spielberg, and included an all-star cast featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover, Margaret Avery and Oprah Winfrey. The story follows an African-American teeanger named Celie, who was raised in rural isolation in Georgia in the 1900s, and the narration of her life through honest letters to God.

Brooks is definitely setting an incredible example for her daughter and sharing with her such an inspiring story about a young girl who looks like her.

The most recent version of this film—starring Brooks—is based on the stage musical version of this story, and will be a musical. Brooks will be reprising her role from productions of the stage musical.

Be on the lookout for this film’s release on Christmas Day.
