They're not the most likely pairing, but we can't wait to watch Dame Judi Dench and Jay Blades in their TV show on Channel 4.

In Dame Judi and Jay: An Odd Couple, the pair embark on a journey to find out more about each other's pasts and upbringings.

Despite such different starts in life and career, and having been born 40 years apart, Dame Judi and The Repair Shop's Jay Blades struck up a close friendship three years ago when they first met.

The one-off show will air on Channel 4 on Sunday 18 August at 9pm. In it the pair will take a whistle-stop tour through each other's pasts, uncovering secrets and heart-warming stories along the way. They will travel from Stratford upon Avon to Hackney in London, learning more about each other as they go.

Jay announced the show on his Instagram, alongside the caption: "We’re proud to announce a really special new documentary: Dame Judi & Jay: The Odd Couple.

"Despite being born 40 years apart, and coming from completely different worlds, Jay and Judi became friends after a chance meeting three years ago. This magical film shows them getting to know each other better, through the people and places that are most important to them."

Talking about the show, Jay said: "To learn about a new friend’s past really solidifies the future of your friendship.

"Going down memory lane with someone dear to you is something I would urge everyone to do. This show has given me memories and a friendship I will cherish forever."

Dame Judi said: "Sometimes if you’re very lucky you get to meet someone and find you’re totally on the same wavelength.

"What fun I had filming this programme with Jay, sharing memories of our past, both so different, finding we have the same sense of humour. I could have gone on filming for days.”

We can't wait to watch the pair on their adventure!
