Heard of Dalgona Coffee before? Also known as “creamy coffee”, it’s making waves on Instagram and TikTok and is a fun way of jazzing up your ordinary instant coffee by beating together just 2 ingredients you’ll most likely already have in the cupboard – no trip to the shop necessary!

As more people are social distancing, many of us are finding light in new at-home recipes and this is quickly becoming an online global coffee trend.

The texture of this creamy coffee mixture is reminiscent of the popular Korean street food snack called Dalgona (or ppogi) which comes together when you heat sugar, oil and baking soda, which then becomes thick and fluffy.

All it takes to get this deliciously creamy coffee drink is 2 tablespoons each of instant coffee granules, white granulated sugar and boiling water, whisking until thick and aerated. It’s the work-from-home drink you never knew you needed – and if you decide to whisk by hand rather than electric, you can pretend its your daily exercise.

Combine all ingredients into a bowl and whisk for 3-5 minutes until soft peaks form. Spoon the whipped mixture into a glass of milk of your choice with a few ice cubes.

Try jazzing it up with a pinch of cinnamon or a splash of vanilla extract and when you’re done – generously dollop on top of a glass filled with your preferred choice of milk and a few cubes of ice. Gently give it a stir for that cool coffee swirl and enjoy. You’ll be imaging yourself sitting on a beach drinking iced coffee in no time.
