Dakota Johnson Will Star In The Next Colleen Hoover Film With Anne Hathaway
Dakota Johnson is following in Blake Lively's footsteps after signing on to play a struggling writer in the upcoming adaptation of Colleen Hoover's bestselling book, Verity.
Johnson will play Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Josh Hartnett has signed on to play Verity's husband, Jeremy, who hires Lowen after his wife is unable to finish the latest book in a successful series, after a mysterious accident occurs.

'Upon arrival at the lavish Crawford estate, Lowen slowly learns that things are not exactly as they seem with the discovery of a secret, unfinished manuscript that may divulge chilling admissions about the family’s past,' the official logline notes. 'As Lowen ingratiates herself with Jeremy and his young son Crew, she must discern if Verity’s writings are merely lurid works of fiction or an ominous warning by a deranged psychopath.'
Johnson is also slated to star in the hotly-anticipated Celine Song's Materialists and Michael Angelo Covino’s Splitsville, both of which are scheduled for 2026 releases.
The production of Verity follows hot on the heels of one of this summer's biggest — and most talked about films — which was an adaptation of another of Hoover's bestsellers, It Ends With Us. Despite being a sweeping success at the box office — It Ends With Us made approximately £285 million — its two protagonists, Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, have since pursued legal action against each other following complaints from both sides.
Hoover has self-published 23 of her 26 published books, with Verity the eighth novel that Hoover wrote and issued herself.
