Dad Bods Are Officially More Attractive Than a Ripped Physique, Study Proves

From Men's Health

If you've been hitting the gym on the regular, armed with a sole aim to get attention from the fairer sex, your efforts may be in vain. That's according to new findings from Planet Fitness, which claims that 'dad bods' — think 'softer' physiques with a slight belly and no visible abs — are more attractive than previously thought.

With some celebrities (we're looking at you, DiCaprio) proudly rocking the dad bod for some time now, the findings may not be surprising for some, but make for re-assuring news nonetheless.

Celebrities such as Chris Pratt, Eden Hazard and Seth Rogen have often been honest about their body weight and Planet Fitness' study, available to view here, is backing the benefits of the bountiful Dad Bod. The survey showed that 79 per cent of survey respondents with a "dad bod" are "happier" with their body, with a further 72 per cent believing that their body type has "improved" their life in some way, a ten per cent increase from the year previous.

Interestingly, the Planet Fitness Study also published: "More Americans say the “dad bod” is attractive (65 percent vs. 57 percent), men with a “dad bod” are sexy (61 percent vs. 51 percent) and the “dad bod” is the new six-pack (51 percent vs. 41 percent) this year compared to last year."

All of which, crucially, makes for good news if your training routine has hit the back-burner. You're in good company, too — the national study found that four in five people — 78 per cent — believed that a "dad bod" is a sign of a man confident in his own skin. Rightly so — it's your body, so what you do with it is up to you.

More men with a dad bod – this year in comparison to last – say they are happier with their body – 79 percent vs 64 percent – explained the survey. The results also showed that their body shape helped them accept themselves.
