Filming For 'Beef' Season 2 Has Started, And Carey Mulligan Will Star In It

Last year was a brilliant year for streaming, whether it was the cult following of the Succession finale, And Just Like That's second season, or The Bear. Adding to that, of course, was Netflix's Beef. The show was such a hit that it was a sweeping success at the 2023 Emmys, and won eight out of its 13 nominations.

Given its success, a second season has naturally been expected, however, what lays ahead for the dark comedy series has yet to be determined — until now. On December 19, 2024, Netflix confirmed that it had renewed the hit series for another season, which will star Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Cailee Spaeny and Academy Award–winner Yuh-Jung Youn.

While the dark comedy's first season followed two strangers whose lives were suddenly intertwined after a bout of desperate road rage left both of them thirsting for revenge, the plot of the second will look totally different.

Here's everything we know about Beef season 2:

Will there be a season 2 of Beef?

Beef season two's inciting incident? 'A young couple witnesses an alarming fight between their boss and his wife, triggering chess moves of favours and coercion in the elitist world of a country club and its Korean billionaire owner,' reads the official Netflix logline.

Carey Mulligan, who's been confirmed to star in the upcoming second season, told Variety on January 27, 2025 at the Sundance Film Festival, that filming had 'just started.'

The Promising Young Woman star also added that 'almost everything [is different]' in the upcoming season. 'But it’s still [creator Lee Sung Jin] being brilliant.'

'It’s a completely new story and if I say anything else then a laser beam will appear on my head,' she joked. 'But it’s very exciting.'

Backstage at the 2024 Emmy Awards the series' creator Lee Sung Jin told reporters that he'd be open to do a second season. 'I feel like there are so many paths. It could stay limited — it was a very close-ended story for sure. But if Netflix wanted to continue, it could also be anthology,' he commented. 'It could be many things. It’s up to the great algorithm. We’re all waiting to hear.'

When asked again at the Golden Globes about a possible season season, he stated: 'We always pitched the season to buyers as an anthology series. There was always going to be new characters,' he said. 'Whether it stays limited or turns as an anthology or we continue existing, that’s really up to Netflix. But whatever they decide, I’m definitely ready.'

Who will star in Beef season 2?

The new season will feature Mulligan, Oscar Isaac, Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny, Minari's Youn Yuh-jung and Parasite's Song Kang-Ho.

'It’s some of the best stuff I’ve ever read ... I’m very excited,' Melton said of the season 2 script, per a VMAN August 2024 issue.

The first season starred Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, Joseph Lee, Young Mazino, Maria Bello, David Choe, and Patti Yasutake.

When will season 2 of Beef be released?

Given that, as of January 2025, filming for Beef season two had started, it would be safe to assume that an early 2026 release date for season two isn't totally out of the question.
