A Tennessee couple's dream wedding turned into a nightmare after the air conditioning system at their venue went out, resulting in unbearable conditions that wreaked havoc on their big day.

Bride and groom Michelle and Arnold Reed spent years planning their nuptials, held at the Lichterman Nature Center, a facility owned by the Memphis Museum of Science & History, according to local news station Fox 13 Memphis. But before their summer wedding finally kicked off, they learned that the venue's air conditioning had failed.

"There was no air conditioning in the whole building," Michelle told the outlet.

With all of their plans already in motion, they went ahead with the event — to unfortunate results. Temperatures grew so hot inside the venue that the couple's wedding cake melted and the DJ and camera equipment malfunctioned, Michelle said.

Fed up with the stifling atmosphere, about 100 guests left the wedding before the food was even served.

Michelle told Fox 13 that she and Arnold lost about $7,000 of their $10,000 investment into their wedding day. The venue did offer to compensate the couple by giving them $150 back, per the outlet, but Michelle said it's too little, too late.

"There's no redo," she told Fox 13. "There's no getting those memories back. Unfortunately, I have to look back on a day that just, it was awful."

She said it's disappointing to accept after having looked forward to her wedding for her whole life. "I've actually been dreaming about getting married since I was a little girl. I think most girls have," Michelle told the outlet.

The museum told Fox 13 that employees worked on the air conditioning all day before the Reeds' wedding, but were unsuccessful in fixing it.

"We regularly host weddings at Lichterman Nature Center and the Pink Palace Mansion and strive to provide a positive experience. We share the disappointment of the family when this doesn’t happen. We did experience issues with the air conditioning system on the weekend in question," a spokesperson for the venue told the outlet.

"Our employees were on the premises throughout the day and working with technicians from the City of Memphis to address the affected unit. Unfortunately, the work was not completed in time for the beginning of the rental," the spokesperson added.
