Costco Fans Say Its New Meal Kit Is the ‘Best Thing It’s Released in a Long Time’
"It's the best thing Costco has released in a long time."
We’ve all been there. It’s dinner time. Nothing is defrosted and you’re trying to decide between ordering a pizza or eating a big bowl of cold cereal (that is, if you have enough milk). This is when keeping a Costco meal kit in the fridge really comes in handy.
Costco has a rotating selection of meal kits that include all you need to make a meal, from the protein to the sauce. The ingredients are pre-cooked, pre-portioned, and ready to heat and eat. Its most popular meal kit tends to be meatloaf and mashed potatoes, probably because, well, it’s meatloaf and mashed potatoes.
But several other Costco meal kits are fan favorites, too. The yakisoba stir fry meal kit is in steady rotation for many Costco members. Other popular options include chicken and cheese quesadillas and carne asada rice bowls. These come with everything needed to make a full meal, down to sliced lime to squeeze over the finished dishes like the carne asada.
Costco just put another kit into its rotation, and it, too, has sliced lime to squeeze over a Mexican-inspired meal, but this time it’s a twist on fish tacos.
Costco Launches New Tempura Shrimp Taco Kit
Fish tacos are typically made with freshly cooked white fish or perhaps something breaded, including good ol’ fish sticks. And while Costco is probably not the first to use tempura shrimp in a taco, this twist on the classic seafood taco has Costco shoppers who look for quick and easy meals excited.
According to @costcohotfinds, the kit, which costs $5.99 a pound, contains enough tempura shrimp, tortillas, pico de gallo, slaw, cilantro lime crema, plus fresh lime wedges to make 16 small tacos with one long piece of tempura shrimp in each taco. The kit shown in the video was priced at $16.71 so that's just under three pounds of food. “This has to be one of my favorite Costco meal kits ever!” the Instagram post’s caption reads.
Everything is cooked and portioned out, but the shrimp should be reheated and the tortillas warmed. Laura, the voice behind the Instagram account, said she reheated the shrimp in the air fryer for 8 minutes, and many of her followers agreed that’s the best way to do it. When the tacos are put together, Laura says they are “outrageously good” and commented to one of her followers that the “pico is actually phenomenal in this kit.”
Those who have tried the tempura shrimp taco kit had good things to say about it, too. “Love love love this one! We put the tortillas in the toaster and the tempura shrimp into the air fryer. Perfect!” raved one Costco shopper. Others claimed they are “the best thing Costco has released in a long time” and “Sooooo freakin good!”
They do sound freakin’ good—there's no doubt the tempura shrimp taco kit and perhaps this newly-returned fall dessert are going on the list for the next Costco run.
