Coronation Street's Roy Cropper left fearing for his life as murder trial takes dark twist

Coronation Street favourite Roy Cropper will be left fearing for his life in Friday's episode (19 April) when his murder trial takes an even darker twist.

The beloved character, played by David Neilson, has been wrongly accused of teengaer Lauren Bolton's murder and is currently languishing in a police cell, but a bail application scene in tonight's episode will reveal that things could be even worse for the cafe owner.

Roy has been supported by solicitor Dee-Dee since his ordeal began and she is currently trying to help him with his bail application, that is set to be turned down by the judge in the ITV soap.

Corrie viewers will see Joel attempting to help Dee-Dee with the bail application on Friday, but he makes a shocking discovery as he goes through the paperwork with her.

Joel is horrified to find that she appears to have received some email death threats, but Dee-Dee then explains that their real target is Roy - which could leave his life in danger even if he does get out of prison.

After seeing how serious the threats are, Joel convinces Dee-Dee to report the online abuse to the police and goes with her to the police station, meaning that he has to postpone meeting up with Maeve.

Viewers anxious to see Roy's name cleared may get a glimmer of hope elsewhere in Friday's episode as Max believes something is afoot with Daniel.

Roy was accused of murdering Lauren after it was discovered he had deep-cleaned her flat after her disappearance, but now he is desperate to prove his innocence.

Bethany warns Max to stop poking into Daniel's possible connection to Lauren, but when Daniel finds out about a rumour that Lauren could have been working as an escort, it gives him an idea to visit Nicky and one of her friends... without realising that Max is following him.

Max recognises Nicky as a sex worker and tells the police, leading DS Swain to question Daniel, but he and Nicky both assure Max and Bethany that there is nothing more to the incident than them trying to help find out what happened to Lauren.

Earlier this week, actor David appeared on This Morning where he admitted he was surprised this was the first time Roy had face prison as so many of Corrie's characters have found themselves behind bars at some point.

Coronation Street airs tonight at 8pm on ITV.
