Coronation Street's Leanne Battersby discovers her big Simon mistake

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Leanne Battersby feels terrible tonight (July 3) as she discovers how much she has upset her son Simon Barlow.

Leanne (Jane Danson) left Simon devastated this week by telling Steve McDonald that she'll have nobody when her young son Oliver dies.

Friday's episode sees Simon (Alex Bain) confide in his dad Peter about what happened, admitting that this is the reason he didn't sit his latest exam.

Simon expresses his fears that he means nothing to Leanne because he isn't her biological child.

Although Simon urges his father not to bother Leanne with his problems at the moment, Peter (Chris Gascoyne) feels that it's best to sort this situation out.

When Peter reminds Leanne of what she said and reveals that Simon overheard, she is mortified and makes an immediate apology to the upset teenager.

Despite the apology, Simon thinks that it'd be best for him to go and stay with Peter for a while, giving Leanne space.

The change in living arrangements doesn't go down well with Leanne's partner Nick Tilsley, who thinks Peter is scheming to take Simon away from Leanne.

The rivals end up squaring up to each other in the street as the tensions over Simon threaten to get out of hand.

Later, Nick realises that he was in the wrong and apologises to Peter, before breaking down over his own inner turmoil.

Ben Price, who plays Nick, recently revealed: "He is still angry at Peter. He feels like the men in Leanne's life have never stepped up and have not been very good, and he wants to vent himself.

"He is using Peter to vent. It isn't about Peter, it is about Nick's frustrations. Peter and Steve have their own issues but they are trying. I think Nick is just angry. He can't take it out on Leanne or the doctors, so he takes it out on them. It is a default for Nick."

Coronation Street airs tonight at 7.30pm on ITV.
